Cardiac Rehabilitation Online Exercise Class and Meditation

If you have had a cardiac event, or have had heart surgery, you probably have been offered cardiac rehabilitation with the hospital cardiac team. This is called phase three (Phase III) cardiac rehabilitation. The course usually runs between 8-12 weeks.

Following on from the Phase III cardiac rehabilitation you will be offered a referral to phase four (Phase IV) cardiac rehabilitation sessions. This is so you can continue to maintain and improve on the benefits you have achieved in Phase III sessions.

The Phase IV exercise class consists of three sections.

-A fifteen minute warm up.

-The main section of the exercise class has 12 exercises  which are 2 minutes long each, there is a mixture of cardiovascular exercise and active recovery exercise. With the aim to increase the amount of time you are doing cardiovascular exercises. Exercise intensity is measured using the 6-20 Borg scale, aiming to work between 11-14 (light – somewhat hard) on the Borg scale. At this range of intensity, you gain benefit from the cardiovascular exercise, such as improved circulation, stronger heart muscle, reduced resting heart rate, increased endurance, being able to do more in your day with less fatigue, stronger muscles, and improved feeling of wellbeing.

-The cool down is 10 minutes long, and it is very important not to lie down during the exercise class or during the cooldown, as heart rate must be back to pre-exercise state before you lie down. Once the ten minute cool down is completed, and heart rate is back down, it is safe to lie down.

I teach a Healthy Heart (Phase IV) and Calm Mind  (meditation) class online.

If you would like to try the class with ten minutes of meditation at the end, the two first sessions are free. You will need medical clearance before starting the class, I will contact the GP for you with your permission.

The class is held on Wednesdays 10.30am-11.40am on Zoom.
